I oppose Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act as written. But there are some parts of it that are needed to improve firearm safety. Blanket opposition to a Reciprocity Act is misguided & should not become part of established city policy. Title 2 of Bill H.R. 38 is a welcome improvement to current state of affairs. Consider amending the city's resolution as written to include support for Title 2, or the stand-alone "Fix NICS Act of 2017", H.R. 4434, or the Senate version S. 2135 which requires federal agencies to enter all disqualifying records into NICS database & provides grant for same. Strengthening NICS is one critical, welcome step towards reducing opportunities for firearms violence. Creating national standards for backgrounds checks & issuance of concealed carry permits are also necessary. Consider urging our state & federal representatives to support common sense improvements to both state & federal firearm possession laws. I have sent more detailed comments to my councilperson.
