I am a public health professional who works within the City of Ann Arbor. I am commenting to voice my disappointment in the lack of consideration given to the thoughtful Care-Based Safety proposal submitted for the original RFP. I have read the proposal and feel that the public health framing would serve our community well. I am concerned about the lack of feedback or engagement regarding the submitted proposal. If another RFP is opened, I ask the council to provide feedback in order for the Care-Based Safety to resubmit with a chance of selection. This proposal was written based on two years of research and carefully engagement with our community. To ensure transparency, release the minutes and all written materials from the closed-door 12/18 meeting and to directly engage and discuss Care-Based Safety’s proposal with them and with the public. Please consider the importance of the Care-Based Safety proposal to the community. Thank you for your time and consideration.
I am disappointed by the handling of the prior RFP. The city did not contact Care-Based Safety with any questions and the RFP was canceled in a closed session. The council also did not share any feedback to what issues they saw with Care-Based Safety's proposal. Continuing to delay the effort has a significant impact in delaying, damaging, and eliminating services that are necessary to keep people safe in our community. If the Ann Arbor City Council recognizes the need, they need to stop putting roadblocks in the way and they need to communicate issues and requirements more clearly rather than vague and ultimately meaningless reaffirmations.
