Allowing rights on red compromises safety for people who walk and bike. Currently, pedestrians must constantly watch for motorists attempting to turn, often while blocking a crosswalk. It is just another example where we prioritize mobility over safety.
Prohibiting RTOR is a simple, low-cost measure. Together with a leading pedestrian interval, the signal changes can benefit pedestrians with minimal impact on traffic.
