To keep pedestrians safe through social distancing, we need more room for them on our sidewalks. One easy way to give it to them is to get cyclists off sidewalks, like the narrow ones on Packard between State and Hill. But this congested business district is right where we have a 2-block bike lane gap. Today headed west the bike lane disappears at State, re-emerges at an absurdly narrow width (the bicycle stencil doesn't even fit), then disappears again at Mary right where auto traffic proceeding straight is shifting to the right lane. We can do better, and this resolution is our chance. Let's fill the gap both to reduce auto/cyclist conflicts and to give the pedestrians (especially come fall when U-M students return) enough space to support social distancing. Thank you!
